Israel Detains Four Soldiers Suspected of Espionage for Iran
(MENAFN) Israel has arrested four of its regular soldiers on suspicion of spying for Iran and taking photos of sensitive sites, according to reports.
As stated by reports, the four soldiers, who serve in standard combat units, were detained in what is described as a “new and concerning espionage case.” The authorities allege that they engaged in coordinated spying for Iran, including during wartime.
The reports note that some of the suspects have been denied access to legal counsel, and the detention of all four has been extended. Iranian intelligence reportedly assigned the soldiers tasks such as photographing sensitive facilities, though further details were not provided.
Informed sources said the case highlights a “growing effort to penetrate Israel’s security establishment and infiltrate civilians,” warning that espionage threats linked to Iran have risen sharply in recent days.
The arrests come amid heightened regional tensions since a joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran began on February 28, reportedly killing more than 1,340 people, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, and has restricted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
