Spain's PM: Middle East Escalation Risks ' Devastating Global Setback'
(MENAFN) Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday issued an urgent appeal for an immediate end to the Middle East war, warning that any further escalation risks triggering a "devastating global setback."
"We all desire a prosperous and peaceful Middle East," Sanchez wrote on X, the US social media platform owned by Elon Musk, following separate phone conversations with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Jordan's King Abdullah II, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Spain demands the immediate end to this war, Sanchez stated, before adding: "An escalation of the conflict would mean a devastating global setback."
The warning reflects mounting international alarm over a conflict that erupted after the US and Israel launched a coordinated offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date — including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since retaliated with drone and missile strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, while simultaneously throttling commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
