Saudi Arabia Shoots Down Seven Ballistic Missiles Near Energy Sites
(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia confirmed early Tuesday that missile debris landed in proximity to critical energy installations in the country's Eastern Province after air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed seven incoming ballistic missiles.
The Saudi Defense Ministry announced that a full damage assessment was underway following the interception, as fragmented remains of the destroyed missiles rained down near the affected facilities.
In an earlier announcement, the ministry had disclosed the interception and neutralization of four ballistic missiles over the Eastern Province — a figure that was subsequently revised upward as the full scope of the attack came into focus.
Tuesday's missile barrage is the latest spillover of a regional conflict that has burned relentlessly since Israel and the US launched a joint military offensive against Iran on February 28, a campaign that has killed more than 1,340 people to date, among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has waged an expansive retaliatory campaign, directing waves of drone and missile strikes at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military forces. The ongoing hostilities have exacted a mounting toll in casualties and infrastructure damage while sending shockwaves through global energy markets and severely disrupting aviation across the region.
