Fire at Russian Petrochemical Plant Leaves Dozens Dead, Search Continues
(MENAFN) The number of people killed in a fire at Nizhnekamskneftekhim, one of Russia’s largest petrochemical complexes, has increased to 11, while efforts continue to locate one missing worker, according to reports released Monday.
The company stated that 25 individuals were taken to hospitals in Moscow, Kazan, and Nizhnekamsk, noting that all are showing “positive progress” in their recovery.
It also indicated that search operations at the facility in Nizhnekamsk, located in Russia’s Tatarstan region, are nearing completion.
“We offer our condolences to the families and friends,” the statement said, shared on a Russian social media platform, according to reports.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a gas mixture ignited during work at the plant, sparking the fire.
