Restrictions To Continue Across Kashmir Today

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Authorities on Monday decided to continue precautionary restrictions across all districts of Kashmir for Tuesday, a day after thousands of people took to the streets to mourn the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader and Shia religious authority, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israeli military strike.

Officials said the decision was taken to maintain law and order in view of the prevailing situation. A senior security official said restrictions would remain in force as a preventive measure and that the situation was being closely monitored.

“Restrictions will continue tomorrow (Tuesday) as a precautionary step. Necessary measures are in place to ensure peace,” the official said, adding that security forces were deployed at sensitive locations across the Valley.

On Monday, processions and mourning rallies were held in several parts of Srinagar as well as in Budgam, Bandipora, Sonawari, Pulwama and other areas of south and north Kashmir. Participants carried black flags and portraits of Ayatollah Khamenei while raising Anti-US and Anti-Israeli slogans and expressing solidarity with Iran.

In Srinagar, gatherings were reported from multiple localities, with security personnel stationed at key intersections to prevent them from marching to the city centre. Concertina wires and barricades had been placed at important intersections leading into the city centre.

Similar rallies were witnessed in interior areas and district headquarters, where police presence was intensified.

A massive and emotionally charged protest was witnessed in Magam town of central Kashmir's Budgam district, as hundreds gathered on the second day of mourning over the killing of Sayyed Khamenei.

Men and women assembled in large numbers, turning parts of the town into a sea of protesters expressing grief and solidarity. Participants carried portraits, black flags and banners while raising slogans. Women were seen actively participating in the demonstration alongside men, describing the gathering as a moment of collective sorrow and unity.

Authorities had earlier imposed precautionary measures, including closure of schools and colleges, restrictions on internet speed and district-wide curbs to prevent escalation.

In Srinagar a large number of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel had been deployed across the city to prevent gatherings of protestors.

Community leaders, including Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari and Imran Reza Ansari, appealed to mourners to maintain calm and express their sentiments peacefully and within the ambit of law. Community elders also urged people not to take the law into their own hands.

Officials said the situation remained under control throughout the day, with no major incidents reported. Senior officers reviewed the ground situation and coordinated with district administrations to ensure stability.

Processions were also reported from parts of Ladakh and Kargil, reflecting the wider public response following the news of Khamenei's assassination.

Authorities said all restrictions are temporary and subject to review based on the evolving situation.

Kashmir Shuts Down

All businesses and commercial establishments remained shut across Kashmir and parts of the Chenab Valley in the Jammu region on Monday to mourn the demise of Iran's Supreme Leader and Shia Marj'a, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israeli operation.

Major commercial hubs in Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam and Baramulla observed a complete shutdown, while public transport was sparse on roads in many areas.

The shutdown call was given by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama, an umbrella body of religious organisations in Jammu and Kashmir. The call was supported by several mainstream political parties.
