Factories Operating At Full Capacity Despite Regional Tensions - JCI

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir on Monday said that factories across the Kingdom are operating at full capacity to meet citizens' needs despite the accelerating regional developments.

In a statement, Jaghbir said coordination with the government remains ongoing to resolve any obstacles affecting production, particularly in light of the slowdown in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reproted.

He stressed that the industrial sector has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, having benefited from previous crises by building sufficient strategic stockpiles of raw and intermediate materials to ensure uninterrupted operations for several months.

“The national industry continues to prove it is a safety valve in securing essential goods under the most challenging conditions,” Jaghbir said, noting that the sector contributes more than 24.3 per cent to GDP, with production capacity exceeding JD17 billion and over 1,500 industrial products across various sectors.

He emphasised that industry is not a complementary sector but a central pillar of the national economy and a buffer against external shocks.

Jaghbir added that the domestic market remains stable and well-prepared to absorb potential repercussions. He noted that during previous crises, from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to logistical disruptions linked to the closure of Bab Al Mandab, the national industry secured more than 60 per cent of essential local market needs without significant shortages.

Beyond ensuring supply continuity, he said, those experiences strengthened consumer confidence in locally manufactured products, which have increasingly become the preferred choice over imports after demonstrating quality, efficiency and reliability.

Jaghbir also pointed to Jordan's logistical flexibility, supported by diversified trade partners and the ability to shift to alternative maritime and land transport routes. He noted that storage and industrial infrastructure can scale up operational capacity when required.

He added that relevant authorities, in coordination with the private sector, are monitoring markets daily to ensure smooth supply chains and prevent monopolistic practices or price distortions.

On exports, Jaghbir said chambers of industry are coordinating with official bodies to ensure the continued flow of Jordanian goods to global markets, while monitoring any logistical bottlenecks at border crossings or ports and seeking immediate alternatives to prevent delays that could affect international contracts.

He called for unified national efforts and stronger support for local products to enhance self-reliance, stressing that the chambers will remain in continuous session to address challenges arising from the regional crisis.
