Modi Calls on Netanyahu for Early End to Hostilities
(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ensure an “early cessation of hostilities” amid escalating violence in the Middle East.
Over the weekend, US and Israeli strikes on Iran reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases across the Gulf and key regional aviation hubs, including Dubai International Airport.
Modi wrote on X on Sunday that he had discussed the situation with Netanyahu: “Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments and emphasized the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities.”
Modi had visited Israel on a two-day official trip last week. India has more than 9 million expatriates in the Middle East, including nearly 18,000 in Israel.
He also spoke with the president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, condemning the attacks on the UAE and offering “heartfelt condolences for the human losses resulting from them.” Modi emphasized India’s support for the UAE during this difficult period: “I thanked him for his care for the Indian community residing in the UAE. We support de-escalation, regional peace, security, and stability.”
The UAE hosts over 3 million Indian expatriates, while Iran is home to around 9,000–10,000 Indians, according to official estimates.
