Iran Rejects Claims Suggesting It Sought Talks with U.S.
(MENAFN) Iran's top security official flatly dismissed reports Monday that Tehran had sought to revive diplomatic contact with Washington, issuing a firm public denial amid rapidly escalating military tensions across the region.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, took to X — the US-owned social media platform — to repudiate accounts suggesting his government had quietly pursued fresh negotiations with American officials.
Pushing back directly against a report by media, which cited The Wall Street Journal in claiming he had attempted to reopen a backchannel through Oman, Larijani left no room for ambiguity: "We will not negotiate with the US."
In a second post, Larijani turned his fire on US President Donald Trump, accusing him of destabilizing the region through miscalculation and misplaced priorities.
"He is now worried about further losses of American soldiers. With his own delusions, he has transformed the slogan 'America First' into 'Israel First' and sacrificed American troops for Israel's lust for power," Larijani wrote.
He compounded the criticism by accusing Trump of "making American soldiers and their families pay the price with new lies."
The remarks come in the immediate aftermath of a joint US-Israeli military campaign launched Saturday — a strike that killed several senior Iranian figures, among them Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has since answered with coordinated drone and missile attacks on Gulf states. Three American service members have been killed in the fallout, with five others sustaining serious wounds.
