UK: Suspected Drone Strike On RAF Base In Cyprus
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
LONDON, March 2 (KUNA) -- A Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Cyprus was targeted by a "suspected drone strike" late Sunday, with no any casualties reported, said the UK Ministry of Defense.
In a statement, the ministry revealed, "Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people."
The ministry also indicated that the strike was launched against the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus.
The suspected drone strike came at time when Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that he had granted the US permission to use UK bases in the region to launch strikes against Iranian missiles assets to prevent their attacks.
Starmer still maintains that the UK will not take part in any offensive missions, noting that British planes will be flying over the region in a defensive posture. (end)
