JKP Issue Advisory, Urge Responsible Reporting

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday issued an advisory urging media houses, journalists, digital platforms and the general public to exercise utmost responsibility while reporting and sharing information amid the prevailing situation in the Union Territory.

The advisory comes in the wake of spontaneous protests across several parts of Kashmir following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a US Israeli strike.

In a press statement, police authorities stressed that all news related to public gatherings, law and order developments or security matters must be verified through credible and official sources before publication or broadcast.

“Circulation of rumours, unverified reports or speculative content can create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace,” the statement said.

Police urged the media fraternity to avoid sensationalism and rely strictly on official updates to ensure accurate dissemination of information. The advisory emphasized that responsible journalism and cautious information sharing are essential to maintaining peace and harmony during sensitive times.

Authorities also warned that any individual or entity found spreading misinformation or rumours would face legal action under relevant provisions of law. Strict measures, the police said, would be taken against those attempting to disturb public order through false or misleading narratives.

Earlier in the day, district police officers reviewed the security situation across the Union Territory. Officers were directed to maintain close watch on developments and ensure peace.

Thousands of protesters had taken to the streets in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, marching peacefully and raising slogans. Police said the situation remained under watch and appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities to safeguard communal harmony and public order.
