US Sends Nine More Refueling Jets to Israel, Total Reaches Fourteen

(MENAFN) Nine US Air Force refueling aircraft landed overnight at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, bringing the total number of American tanker planes in Israel to at least 14, Israeli media reported Friday.

Reports noted that the aircraft were lined up on the runway amid increasing regional tensions and speculation about a potential US strike on Iran. In recent days, several US refueling and cargo planes have been observed in Israel, alongside the arrival of 11 F 22 stealth fighter jets at Ovda Air Base in the south.

The tanker aircraft could support US fighter jets operating from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, which is reportedly heading toward the eastern Mediterranean, if Washington decides to launch further military action.

In recent weeks, the US has reinforced its military presence in the Persian Gulf and signaled the possibility of operations intended to pressure Iran to abandon its nuclear and missile programs and curb activities of its regional allies. Tehran, for its part, has accused Washington and Israel of creating pretexts for intervention and regime change, warning it would respond to any military attack, even if limited, while insisting that sanctions relief must accompany restrictions on its nuclear program.
