In the first week of Ramadan, Sharjah authorities launched a major fire safety crackdown targeting factories, warehouses and commercial facilities across the emirate to prevent fires and ensure worker safety during the holy month.

The campaign, led by the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, comes as industrial zones witness increased operational activity during Ramadan, when extended working hours and higher electricity loads can heighten fire risk.

Brigadier Yousef Obaid Harmoul Al Shamsi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, said the preventive drive aims to stop incidents before they occur.

"We focus during Ramadan is to prevent fires and protect workers. Compliance with approved safety standards is essential to safeguard lives and property,” Brigadier Al Shamsi told Khaleej Times.

Campaign to continue until Eid

Authorities confirmed that the intensified inspection campaign will continue throughout Ramadan and until the end of Eid, with ongoing monitoring of factories, warehouses and commercial establishments.

Penalties for violations

Officials warned that facilities failing to rectify safety breaches could face financial penalties, legal action and, in serious cases, temporary closure until full compliance is achieved.

They stressed that property owners and operators may also be held accountable if negligence contributes to an incident, reinforcing that fire safety obligations are mandatory - particularly in high-risk industrial environments.

Authorities reiterated that prevention remains a shared responsibility, especially during Ramadan - a month that underscores discipline, responsibility and community wellbeing.
