US Lawmaker Says Infant with Bronchitis Gets Deported by ICE
(MENAFN) US Rep. Joaquin Castro said Tuesday that a two-month-old infant suffering from bronchitis was deported by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) along with his family after spending weeks in detention in Texas.
Castro said he confirmed the deportation of Juan Nicolas, his 16-month-old sister, and their parents after speaking with the family’s attorney.
According to the attorney, ICE deported the family with only the money they had in their commissary account — a total of $190 — and left them across the border in Mexico.
Juan Nicolas had spent three weeks at the Dilley detention facility. He was taken to a hospital Monday night after falling ill with bronchitis but was released around midnight despite his condition, Castro said.
The congressman described the deportation as “heinous” and said efforts are underway to track the family’s whereabouts, seek accountability from immigration authorities, and ensure their safety.
The case comes amid heightened scrutiny of ICE and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) following recent immigration enforcement operations that have sparked protests and calls for greater oversight.
