Md S Hossain
- Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Texas at Arlington
Dr. Sahadat Hossain is a Professor of Civil Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Hossain has completed his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, India, Master of Engineering in Geotechnical Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand, and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University (NCSU) at Raleigh, NC, USA.
Dr. Hossain's research and scholarship are well recognized nationally and internationally. He is an expert in the design of waste containment and bioreactor landfill technology. He is working on different aspects of bioreactor landfill engineering design and operational practices for last 15 years. At present Dr. Hossain is working on research, development and implementation of innovative solutions for sustainable waste management and to provide support for waste management in USA and developing countries. The major objective of his research is to develop and test innovative, cost-effective and sustainable technologies for sustainable solid waste management systems, including Enhanced Leachate Recirculation (Bioreactor) landfill technology, landfill to gas to energy, utilization of waste materials for sustainable and reusable construction materials, and landfill mining.
Dr. Hossain is also working on Transportation Geotechnics related projects with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Dr. Hossain and his research team investigated the feasibility of using Recycled Plastic Pins (RPP) for slope stabilization, conducted field investigation and performance monitoring of RPP stabilized slopes in North Texas. This is a very cost-effective and green solution compared to existing slope stabilization methods adopted by TxDOT.
Dr. Hossain has more than 6 (Six) years of professional experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering in Bangladesh, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and USA. He has work experience in the design, instrumentation, construction and performance monitoring of excavation support system design for building foundations, cut and cover tunnel for the underpass, retaining walls, walls, and temporary and permanent excavation support system for transportation related projects. His experience includes design and construction of solider pile, sheet pile, contiguous bored pile, scant pile, diaphragm wall, and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall. Dr. Hossain had worked on more than 50 (fifty) geotechnical and geo-environmental design and construction projects in different countries.
