National Library Releases Proceedings Of Its First International Conference

Amman, Feb. 5 (Petra) -- The National Library Department on Wednesday unveiled the proceedings of its first international conference titled "National Libraries and the Role of Archives in Preserving National Memory in a Changing Digital Environment" at its headquarters in Amman.
The launch was attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Nidal Al-Ahmad, and Library Director General Firas Al-Darabi'ah, alongside academics and researchers including Dr. Omar Al-Fajawi, Dr. Rabie Farajat, and Dr. Omar Jaradat. The session was moderated by Dr. Hussein Shaqirat.
Al-Darabi'ah noted that the publication collects the most significant papers presented during the conference, held to mark the Library's 50th anniversary, and provides a valuable reference for library professionals, researchers, and specialists. He also announced plans for the Department's second international conference in 2026.
The book features contributions from 64 researchers, with 32 peer-reviewed studies covering themes such as digital transformation, supporting research in libraries and archives, enhancing cultural knowledge, preserving national memory, fostering creativity, and promoting sustainable development.
Dr. Al-Ahmad highlighted the publication's importance for information and library specialists and its contribution to advancing the Arab library sector in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
Dr. Al-Fajawi praised the Library Department's efforts to safeguard the Arabic language, while Dr. Jaradat underscored the book's focus on digital innovation, the use of artificial intelligence in knowledge preservation, and libraries' role in supporting sustainable development.
The book also addresses intellectual property, legal frameworks, electronic publishing, and the future of libraries. The ceremony concluded with the Ministry Secretary-General and Library Director presenting honorary awards to contributors and participants.
