Palestinian President Thanks Türkiye, SA for Backing Palestine

(MENAFN) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his gratitude to Türkiye and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for their continued support of the Palestinian people, following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

In a statement, Abbas praised “the honorable and principled stances” of both Ankara and Riyadh for upholding international law and legitimacy, and for backing “the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and independence.”

He highlighted a joint statement by the two countries reaffirming the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, in line with international law, UN resolutions, and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

Abbas noted that this framework supports the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.

Abbas also welcomed renewed recognition by Türkiye and Saudi Arabia of the “vital” role played by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in providing essential services to Palestinians.
