According to seismic data by United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake measured a magnitude of 5.9 and struck at 15:34 UTC, approximately 95 km west of Yenangyaung at a depth of 62.7 km.

People in Kolkata said they felt shaking at homes, and restaurants. Authorities have not reported any immediate damage or casualties.

Social media users in Kolkata reported feeling tremors. Netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences.

Many users described feeling the earthquake while at home, in offices, and even in restaurants. One user wrote, "Did anyone feel earthquake tremors in Kolkata?" Another tweeted, "#Kolkata just felt the tremors from a 5.9-magnitude #earthquake that had its epicentre in #Myanmar."

Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes Bangladesh

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Bangladesh on February 3 at 04:06 IST, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The quake occurred at a depth of 150 km, with coordinates 22.84°N and 89.01°E.

Bangladesh lies at the junction of the Indian, Eurasian, and Burma tectonic plates, making it prone to seismic activity. Major fault zones include Bogura, Tripura, Shillong Plateau, Dauki, and Assam. Cities like Chattogram, Chattogram Hill Tracts, and Jaintiapur remain at high risk. Dhaka, with one of the highest population densities in the world, is also considered highly vulnerable to earthquakes.
