EU Leaders Warn Trump Tariffs Threaten Transatlantic Unity

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the statement was published on social media platform X by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.

“Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law. They are essential for Europe and for the international community as a whole,” the EU leaders said.

They noted that the EU has consistently emphasized the shared transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, including through NATO.

“The pre-coordinated Danish exercise, conducted with allies, responds to the need to strengthen Arctic security and poses no threat to anyone,” Costa and von der Leyen said.

They stressed that the EU“stands in full solidarity” with Denmark and the people of Greenland.

“Dialogue remains essential, and we are committed to building on the process begun already last week between the Kingdom of Denmark and the US,” the statement added.

According to the EU leaders,“tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral.”

Costa and von der Leyen assured that Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to defending its sovereignty.
