IED Attack On JI Deputy Ameer's Residence In Bajaur Sparks Security Concerns
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bajaur district, the residence of Jamiat-e-Islami's provincial deputy ameer and former candidate for the provincial assembly, Maulana Waheed Gul, was targeted in a bomb attack late last night. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported; however, the explosion caused severe damage to the house, hujra, and a vehicle.
According to police, the explosive material was planted near the main gate of Maulana Waheed Gul's hujra. At the time of the incident, Maulana Waheed Gul was not at home, which is why he remained safe.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur, Waqqas Rafiq, said that preliminary investigations suggest that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the attack. Immediately after the blast, a heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area, collected evidence from the site, and launched an investigation.
Speaking to TNN after the incident, Maulana Waheed Gul revealed that he had been facing security threats for several months and had been receiving continuous threats over the past three days.
He said that attempts were once again being made to create instability in the area and revive a“bloody business.” According to him, certain elements are trying to forcibly impose their narrative, which is deeply concerning.
Criticising the authorities, Maulana Waheed Gul stated that despite serious security concerns, his security was withdrawn twice over the past two months and was only restored after repeated requests. He clearly demanded that the restoration of law and order is a fundamental responsibility of the state and that state institutions must fulfil their constitutional duty.
Following the attack, Jamaat-e-Islami Bajaur convened an important consultative meeting, during which the incident was strongly condemned and future strategy will be discussed.
Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (North), Inayatullah Khan, also strongly condemned the attack on Maulana Waheed Gul's house, saying that the government and law enforcement agencies must immediately arrest those responsible and ensure they are punished accordingly. He added that such cowardly attacks cannot weaken Jamaat-e-Islami's resolve.
After the incident, an atmosphere of fear and panic prevails in the area. Police say a search operation has been launched to arrest the suspects, and investigations are underway from all angles.
