Majority of American express disapproval of ICE practices

(MENAFN) A recent nationwide poll indicates that 57% of registered American voters disapprove of how the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency enforces immigration laws.

The survey, conducted in early January, shows public sentiment has remained largely unchanged since a similar poll six months ago.

Regarding a recent fatal shooting involving an ICE agent in Minnesota, 53% of respondents viewed the incident as unjustified, 35% considered it justified, and 12% had no opinion. Political affiliation influenced perceptions sharply: 77% of Republicans deemed the shooting justified, while 92% of Democrats and 59% of Independents said it was not.

Gender differences were also evident. Among men, 42% thought the shooting was justified and 44% disagreed. For women, 30% viewed it as justified, while 61% considered it unjustified.

Overall, 82% of respondents said they had seen footage of the Minneapolis incident.

The poll also highlighted declining approval for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Thirty-six percent of participants approved of her performance, 52% disapproved, and 12% had no opinion—a slight decrease from the previous survey, which showed 39% approval and 50% disapproval.

Support for Noem remained polarized along party lines: 77% of Republicans approved of her work, compared with 85% of Democrats and 57% of Independents expressing disapproval.
