OAS General Secretariat Expresses Its Concern On The Current Electoral Landscape In Honduras
Likewise, the General Secretariat notes with consternation the acts of violence that occurred within the National Congress, in which a congresswoman was seriously injured. Such acts are incompatible with the principles of any democratic system.
The General Secretariat rejects the intervention and criminalisation of the counselors of the National Electoral Council through the involvement of the Attorney General's Office in the electoral process. The two independent, non-partisan, and robust Electoral Observation Missions deployed in the country-those of the Organization of American States and the European Union-have stated that the results of the presidential elections reflect the will of the people.
The General Secretariat calls for an end to attempts to obstruct the constitutional transition and urges that it be carried out peacefully and in accordance with the law. Democracy is not exercised solely by voting, but also by accepting the will of the people.
