White House launches “media bias” tracker to spot fake

(MENAFN) The White House has rolled out a new “media bias” monitoring tool that publicly names news organizations it accuses of spreading inaccurate or misleading information.

The initiative comes amid President Donald Trump’s ongoing feud with what he frequently brands the “fake news media,” a label he has long used for coverage he believes to be incorrect or antagonistic.

Unveiled on Friday, the tool appears as a new section on the White House website under the heading “Misleading. Biased. Exposed.” It compiles weekly examples of stories the administration disputes, linking directly to the original reports and labeling them under categories such as “Misrepresentation,” “Omission of context,” “Bias” and “Malpractice.”

According to a White House statement, the page aims to function as a “record of the media’s false and misleading stories flagged by the White House.”

The first entries in the “Media Offender of the Week” spotlight include CBS News, The Boston Globe and The Independent. Officials argue that their recent reporting “misrepresents and exaggerates President Trump’s calls for Democrat accountability,” rejecting claims that Trump advocated the “execution” of lawmakers.

Another section, the “Offender Hall of Shame,” presented as a “record of the media’s false and misleading stories,” contains dozens of searchable entries naming outlets such as The Washington Post, CBS News, CNN and MSNBC.

The launch comes shortly after a controversy surrounding a BBC Panorama documentary titled Trump: A Second Chance?, which aired ahead of last November’s US election. The program used edited clips from a 2021 speech to imply Trump urged supporters to “fight like hell” at the Capitol on January 6. Following backlash and Trump’s threat to sue the broadcaster for $1 billion for “defamation,” the BBC issued a formal apology.
