Zelensky Confirms Three Fatalities in Russian Strikes
(MENAFN) At least three people died Saturday following Russian aerial assaults on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed.
Zelensky disclosed on Telegram that Russian military forces unleashed successive waves of drones and missiles targeting Ukraine's energy grid and civilian infrastructure through the night, triggering widespread destruction and igniting fires in residential complexes.
The Ukrainian leader reported his nation endured bombardment from over 600 drones and 36 missiles.
Russia's defense ministry issued a same-day statement framing the offensive as retaliation, asserting the strike was conducted "in response to Ukraine's terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russia."
"The Russian Armed Forces conducted a large-scale strike using high-precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises and energy facilities that support their operations," the ministry declared.
Moscow claimed all designated targets were successfully hit and the objectives of the strike were achieved.
Russian forces additionally destroyed a Ukrainian military airfield along with storage and launch sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, the ministry stated.
