Dubai: Veteran Diplomat Ambrosio Brian Enciso III Named New Philippine Consul-General

Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III, a career diplomat who joined the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in 2003, is now the new Philippine consul-general in Dubai, replacing Marford Angeles, who returned to Manila in October.

Before arriving in Dubai early this month, Enciso, 45, served at the DFA in Manila as principal assistant at the Public Information Services Unit of the Office of the DFA Secretary for two years (2003-2025).

He previously served as deputy consul-general at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, California from 2016 to 2023; and consul at the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, People's Republic of China (2008-2014).

He was assigned twice at the Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs (ASPAC) - first as assistant director of the Division for North Asia (2006-2008), handling bilateral relations with the People's Republic of China; and then as director for Southeast Asia (2014-2016), handling bilateral relations with Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Viet Nam and Myanmar.

In 2024, he was appointed as the deputy assistant secretary and executive director at the Office of United Nations and International Organisations (UNIO), after first directing the UNIO Socio-Cultural Division from 2023 to 2024.

Prior to entering the foreign service, Enciso worked as policy staff at the Office of the President - Presidential Management Staff from 2002 to 2003.

Sterling academic background

Enciso has a sterling academic background, graduating cum laude from the Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 2001. He also took courses at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing (2005-2006) and the Fletcher School of Diplomacy of Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA (2019).

He obtained his secondary education from the Quezon City Science High School after spending his elementary years at the Jose Abad Santos Memorial School of the Philippine Women's University.

Aside from speaking Filipino and English, he also speaks German and Mandarin Chinese.

Enciso is the eight Philippine consul-general in Dubai. The first was Generoso D.G. Calonge (2004-2006), followed by Antonio Curameng (2006-2008); then Benito Valeriano (2008-2012); Frank R. Cimafranca (2012-2015); Paul Raymund P. Cortes (2015-2021); Renato N. Dueñas, Jr (2021-2024) and Angeles (2024-2025).
