Turkish FM to travel to Iran on Sunday

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to travel to Iran on Sunday for a series of high-level meetings aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations and addressing key regional matters, according to reports.

During his visit, Fidan is expected to meet with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. Discussions will focus on strengthening the institutional framework of bilateral relations under the High-Level Cooperation Council, established in 2014.

Fidan will also review preparations for the ninth session of the council, which will be held under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The talks are anticipated to emphasize enhanced cooperation in security and counterterrorism, as well as the acceleration of infrastructure projects related to border trade centers and regional connectivity.

The Turkish foreign minister is also likely to advocate for joint measures to achieve the target of $30 billion in bilateral trade, stressing the importance of ongoing dialogue to support regional stability.

Additionally, he is expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s backing for a peaceful resolution to Iran’s nuclear program while noting that Israel’s aggressive actions continue to hinder stability in the region.
