Israeli forces kill Palestinians in Gaza ceasefire violation

(MENAFN) Israeli military operations in Gaza resulted in the deaths of six Palestinians on Wednesday, in what appears to be a violation of the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10.

A statement from the Israeli army reported that six individuals in eastern Rafah were targeted after they “most likely emerged” from underground infrastructure in the area. Four were killed and two others were taken into custody. Israeli media sources noted that nearly 200 Hamas fighters remain trapped in tunnels in Rafah, located within zones still occupied by Israeli troops under the ceasefire’s “yellow line” arrangements. Tel Aviv has not responded to requests from Hamas and mediators to allow safe passage for those inside the tunnels. Hamas has not commented on the Rafah incident.

In a separate incident, two Palestinians were reportedly killed when an Israeli drone struck a group of civilians near the Beit Lahia Roundabout in northern Gaza. Witnesses said the drone targeted an area from which Israeli forces had previously withdrawn under the ceasefire terms.

The attacks constitute the latest breaches of the truce brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, with support from the United States. Palestinian authorities report that at least 342 people have been killed by Israeli army fire since the ceasefire came into effect.

Since October 2023, nearly 70,000 people—primarily women and children—have been killed and 171,000 injured in Gaza due to Israeli military actions, leaving significant portions of the enclave devastated.
