Zelensky Urges European Leaders to Join Talks with Trump

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has called on European leaders to attend his upcoming discussions with US President Donald Trump, aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The United States has presented a 28-point peace proposal, which was modified following talks with Ukrainian officials in Geneva last weekend.

However, Moscow has stated that it has not yet received any official version of the proposal.

“I am ready to meet with President Trump – there are sensitive points to discuss, we still have them – and we believe that the presence of European leaders could be helpful,” Zelensky said in a video address to EU leaders, which was released by his office on Tuesday.

The meeting with Trump is seen as crucial to addressing these key issues.

When Zelensky met with Trump in August, following the US president’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, he was accompanied by several high-ranking Western officials.

These included NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the leaders of Finland, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

A leaked version of the original US peace plan suggested that Ukraine would be required to abandon certain long-standing “red lines,” such as its aspirations for NATO membership and its territorial claims against Russia.

However, Ukrainian officials claim they successfully convinced Washington to make significant revisions to the plan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that if the revised draft strays from what Moscow perceives as the original “spirit of Anchorage,” the situation could change dramatically.
