Macron urges for rapid AI adoption across France, Europe
(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a dramatic acceleration in the deployment of artificial intelligence across both France and the broader European continent, arguing that Europe must act far more swiftly to keep pace in the global tech arena.
Speaking at the AdoptAI gathering in Paris—an event that brought together researchers, investors, and leading technology figures—Macron said France has the capacity to emerge as “one of the great AI nations,” provided key strategic choices are made now. He pointed to the country’s expanding talent pool, its energetic start-up scene, and its low-carbon power supply built on nuclear energy. Highlighting companies such as Mistral AI, Doctolib, and Alan, he described the national AI ecosystem as “extraordinarily vibrant.”
On the industrial side, the president unveiled a new priority site in Dunkirk dedicated to AI infrastructure, set to provide more than 700 MW of capacity. This hub will join the 23 already marked for major development. Macron also confirmed that France’s exascale supercomputer, “Alice Recoque,” will soon be deployed, asserting that “We need European infrastructures capable of rivaling the best global players.”
He emphasized that the next challenge is driving widespread AI integration across the private sector and government. By 2030, Macron said, “all major companies and most SMEs must use AI in concrete ways.” To facilitate this shift, authorities plan to assign 300 AI ambassadors to support businesses and to train 50,000 civil servants by 2026.
The French leader also pressed for a unified European strategy that balances simpler regulations with increased technological investment and stronger defenses of the EU market against dominant US and Chinese tech firms. He announced a new letter of intent involving Mistral AI, SAP, France, and Germany, aimed at strengthening coordination around Europe’s industrial AI development.
Macron proposed making AdoptAI an annual global forum, stressing that Europe must safeguard its technological autonomy and position itself as “a leading actor in this revolution.”
