(MENAFN) The United Kingdom has reportedly ceased providing specific intelligence to the United States regarding drug-trafficking vessels in the Caribbean — a service that had supported the American Coast Guard’s interception missions for years, according to CNN on Tuesday.

Insiders revealed that this suspension, which began more than a month ago, arises from British officials’ belief that recent deadly US military strikes targeting these boats may violate international law.

Authorities in London are said to be worried that maintaining the intelligence-sharing arrangement could render the UK complicit in the US-led assaults.

These American operations form part of the Donald Trump administration’s broader anti-narcotics initiative, which has extended from the Caribbean region into the Eastern Pacific since September.

Upon assuming office, Trump issued an executive order labeling drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Since the initiative’s launch in September, at least 19 strikes have reportedly occurred, resulting in 75 fatalities.

CNN noted that the British Embassy in Washington, along with the Pentagon and the White House, declined to issue any responses to inquiries for comment.
