Russia Denies Entry of Thirty Japanese Nationals Over Sanctions

(MENAFN) Russia has imposed an indefinite entry prohibition on 30 Japanese nationals late Tuesday, marking Moscow's latest retaliatory measure against Tokyo's ongoing punitive actions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry disclosed the ban through an official statement posted to its digital platform Tuesday evening. Among those targeted is Toshihiro Kitamura, spokesman for Japan's diplomatic arm, alongside numerous figures from Japanese journalism and scholarly institutions.

Tokyo aligned itself with Washington in deploying sweeping punitive measures against Russia after the Ukraine conflict intensified in 2022. Moscow subsequently designated Japan among nations deemed hostile to its interests.

Just last September, Japanese authorities expanded their restrictive measures, targeting additional Russian commercial entities and private individuals with fresh penalties.

The tit-for-tat escalation underscores deepening tensions between the two nations, with neither side signaling willingness to de-escalate the diplomatic standoff.
