Syrian President Affirms Significance Of US Visit In Ushering New Era Of Int'l Relations
Washington: Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa has affirmed that his visit to the United States comes following a period of isolation that plagued Syria.
He highlighted that the visit intends to herald a new era of international relations and advance the Damascus-Washington dialogue.
The visit to the White House and the meeting with US President Donald Trump were a step toward promoting strategic ties, as Syria is no longer posing a threat to the US, but could be a geopolitical ally, Al Sharaa remarked.
Al Sharaa further clarified that the meeting largely focused on the present and future, as well as investment opportunities in Syria, particularly in the areas of gas extraction and lifting sanctions.
He noted that the US President administration's assistance could either help reach a security deal with Israel or return to the 1974 agreement.
In addition, Al Sharaa highlighted divergences with Russia on certain legal issues, emphasizing that justice must take its course, alongside the formation of a transitional justice committee to address the crimes committed during the conflict in Syria.
