EU Allocates Additional EUR 1 Mln For Sudan's Humanitarian Crisis
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BRUSSELS, Nov 11 (KUNA) -- An additional EUR 1 million in funding was allocated to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan, amid growing humanitarian needs following the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)'s takeover of El Fasher in North Darfur, which caused a mass displacement of civilians fleeing violence, announced the European Union (EU) on Tuesday.
In a statement, EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, Hadja Lahbib said, "The humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached a level that is difficult to describe in words."
She noted credible reports confirming that the RSF has committed "mass atrocities, ranging from ethnically motivated killings to systematic violence." She emphasized that, "Sudan is bleeding, but the EU will not stand by and watch."
According to the statement, this new funding will contribute to strengthening the emergency response in North Darfur, particularly in Tawila locality, which hosts the largest number of internally displaced persons in the country.
The aid will also be directed toward providing water, sanitation, and hygiene services, as well as emergency shelter for families fleeing El Fasher.
This new funding comes on top of more than EUR 272 million provided by the EU during 2025 to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected inside Sudan as well as to Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries. (end)
