Kushner, Netanyahu discuss Gaza ceasefire phases
(MENAFN) US envoy Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to review progress on the Gaza ceasefire plan and discuss the next steps in the agreement.
“Together the two discussed phase one which we are currently still in... and the future of phase two of this plan, which includes the disarming of Hamas, demilitarising Gaza and ensuring Hamas will have no role in the future of Gaza ever again,” said Shosh Bedrosian, a spokeswoman for the Israeli prime minister’s office.
She added that “phase two also includes the establishment of the international stabilisation force and the details of which of course together are being discussed.”
Separately, the United Arab Emirates indicated it is unlikely to participate in the international stabilisation force due to the absence of a clear operational framework. Emirati presidential advisor Anwar Gargash told the Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate forum, “The UAE does not yet see a clear framework for the stability force, and under such circumstances will probably not participate in such a force.”
The discussions come as Israeli and US officials continue efforts to solidify a long-term plan for Gaza, with a focus on security, reconstruction, and limiting Hamas’ influence in the territory.
