Advanced Arms In Afghanistan Pose Serious Threat To Regional Stability, Pakistan Tells UN
Pakistan has warned that the availability of modern and illegal weapons in Afghanistan poses a grave threat to regional peace and stability, calling on the United Nations to take effective measures to curb the flow of arms to terrorist organisations operating from Afghan soil.
Addressing a session of the UN Security Council, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, said that stockpiles of sophisticated weapons and ammunition inside Afghanistan endanger not only the region but directly threaten neighbouring states.
He stated that terrorist groups continue to operate openly from Afghanistan, and credible reports confirm that advanced weapons were being smuggled from the country into neighbouring states for terrorist activities.

The Pakistani envoy added that groups such as Daesh, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Majeed Brigade were using these sophisticated weapons against Pakistani civilians and law enforcement agencies, resulting in the loss of thousands of innocent lives.
Asim Iftikhar urged the international community to take urgent and effective steps to prevent terrorist groups from accessing these weapons and to ensure that the Afghan interim authorities fully adhere to their international commitments and responsibilities.
