Trump Grants Pardons to Allies Challenging 2020 Elections
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has extended extensive pardons to numerous individuals who were targeted by the previous administration for disputing the 2020 election outcomes, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Trump had consistently alleged that the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Joe Biden, was affected by fraud.
The comprehensive list, unveiled on Monday by US Pardon Attorney Ed Martin, includes prominent figures such as Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows, who were reportedly linked to attempts to contest the certified election results.
The pardons also cover Sidney Powell and Boris Epshteyn, who were reportedly involved in both legal and political initiatives aimed at overturning the election outcomes in several key states.
“This proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people following the 2020 Presidential Election and continues the process of national reconciliation,” the statement reads, clarifying that it does not apply to the incumbent US president.
Giuliani and Meadows, who served as White House chief of staff during Trump’s first term, have faced state-level indictments related to alleged efforts to reverse the election.
Eastman, who acted as Trump’s legal adviser at the time, was charged for his role in legal strategies involving alternate electors.
Powell, formerly one of the president’s lawyers, was charged in Georgia with election-related misdemeanors.
She has pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy to interfere with election duties and has accepted a sentence of six years’ probation along with a $6,000 fine.
