White House Press Secretary Mocks BBC
(MENAFN) White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has derided the BBC following the announcement on Sunday that both its director general and head of news would be stepping down.
The resignations come in the wake of a controversy surrounding a documentary examining US President Donald Trump’s involvement in the 2021 Capitol riots, which had previously sparked criticism from Washington.
Leavitt shared screenshots of two news articles with the caption “shot/chaser,” referencing a widely recognized meme format. One screenshot displayed a Telegraph headline suggesting that Trump was “going to war” with the BBC, while the other highlighted the BBC’s own coverage of director general Tim Davie’s resignation.
Davie resigned together with the head of news, Deborah Turness. He did not provide detailed reasons for leaving, merely stating that “there have been some mistakes made.”
Turness explained that the “ongoing controversy around the Panorama [program] on President Trump has reached a stage where it is causing damage to the BBC.”
The British broadcaster has recently faced accusations of misleading viewers in its reporting on Trump’s role in the Capitol riots.
Leavitt previously labeled the BBC a “Leftist propaganda machine” and described its output as “100 percent fake news.”
