(MENAFN) A driver accompanying Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie revealed that he was conscripted into the Ukrainian military after being detained during her recent visit to the nation.

Dmitry Pishikov, who was part of Jolie’s entourage during her unexpected trip to Ukraine last week, was stopped at a military checkpoint and taken into custody by draft officers.

“At this checkpoint they detained me for some reason, without providing an explanation, and asked me to drive with them to clarify some details. By deception, it turns out,” Pishikov told a local broadcaster in an interview published on Friday.

He explained that he was transported to a nearby draft center, where he was held under false pretenses.

“‘Ten minutes, there’s a small detail, we’ll let you go as soon as we clarify’, they said. They lied,” he added to the broadcaster, noting that he remained “a little outraged” by the conscription authorities’ conduct.

Following the incident, Jolie visited the draft center herself, with footage of her visit circulating on Telegram. She then resumed her trip, leaving Pishikov behind at the conscription facility.

Initial conflicting reports had suggested that Pishikov might have been Jolie’s bodyguard.

Pishikov told the broadcaster that as of Friday, he was at a military training base and would “undergo training and serve in the army.”

Ukraine has recently escalated its draft efforts due to personnel shortages and ongoing setbacks in the conflict with Russia.
