Syrian President Highlights Reconstruction in Washington Visit
(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa convened with delegates from various Syrian organizations in Washington, DC, on Sunday, as reported by local outlets.
Throughout the discussion, Sharaa underlined “the spirit of cooperation” among Syrians abroad and those residing within the nation, underscoring the importance of collective efforts to rebuild Syria.
According to a state-run broadcaster, he stressed that unity and collaboration remain vital for national recovery.
Sharaa remarked that “the sanctions are in their final stages, and we must continue working toward their removal,” urging representatives to grasp “the rare opportunity” now available to Syria.
The broadcaster also mentioned that Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani was in attendance at the meeting.
The Syrian leader arrived in the U.S. capital early Sunday, following his participation in the COP30 Climate Summit held in Brazil on November 6.
His trip occurred just two days after the United States lifted his name from its Specially Designated Global Terrorist sanctions list.
Sharaa is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on November 10 in what is considered a historic occasion—the first visit by a Syrian head of state to the White House in nearly eight decades.
Since the removal of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, Syria’s new leadership has implemented numerous initiatives to reestablish stability across the nation.
The government has also pursued political and economic overhauls, encouraged social unity, and sought to deepen collaboration with both regional and global partners.
