Türkiye-Syria Border Coordination Accelerates

(MENAFN) Coordination and integration at the border crossings between Türkiye and Syria are advancing swiftly, with the transit transport agreement expected to be fully functional within this month, stated Mazen Alloush, director of public relations at the Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Ports.

“We hold meetings with Turkish officials almost weekly. When a problem arises, we establish mutual communication and resolve it within our means," he told a news agency.

Expressing appreciation for Ankara's assistance to Damascus “since liberation,” Alloush highlighted that collaboration and coordination continue in the fields of trade, transportation, and border management.

He indicated that measures are now being implemented under the transit transport agreement signed in Istanbul in August, and the transshipment system for freight traffic is set to conclude in November.

Alloush added that Syrian drivers’ visas will be processed by the Turkish Consulate in Aleppo within 10 days, while Turkish drivers will also have the option to obtain visas directly at the border gate.

He also mentioned that Turkish authorities recently reached a preliminary decision allowing Syrians with dual citizenship to enter Türkiye using Syrian-plated vehicles, with implementation expected to commence soon.

Highlighting plans for the development of Syria’s transport fleet in the near future, Alloush said the objective is for Syrian drivers to regain the ability to reach Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Europe, and the Gulf countries by land through Türkiye.

He concluded by noting that Turkish brothers continue to support Syria “to the best of their capabilities.”
