Doha, Qatar: For the next generation of leaders in business, science, and technology, understanding artificial intelligence is an essential skill. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) is meeting this challenge head-on, embedding artificial intelligence not just as a course of study, but as a practical tool for innovation across its entire curriculum.

Carnegie Mellon University has been a leader in artificial intelligence education and research since AI's inception more than 50 years ago, and the Qatar campus continues this legacy by preparing students across all programs to navigate an AI-driven world. At the heart of CMU-Q's AI strategy is the importance of critical thinking. Students learn how AI works, the promises and possibilities of the technology, as well as the ethical implications and drawbacks.

In 2025, CMU-Q announced that it is now offering the groundbreaking CMU Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BSAI). This top-ranked program was introduced in the U.S. in 2018, and is exceptional preparation for students who want to be part of the next generation of intelligent technology.

CMU-Q will continue to also offer undergraduate degree programs in biological sciences, business administration, computer science and information systems. Students in every undergraduate program are learning to be advanced users and managers of this technology.

Biological Sciences students learn to leverage machine learning to analyze complex genomic data, unlocking insights that were once difficult to find.

Business Administration graduates learn to use AI to guide corporate strategy. An AI+Finance certificate, as well as AI and Business concentration, provide opportunities for students to delve deeper into AI applications.

Computer Science majors learn to create AI algorithms, as well as the systems and cybersecurity principles needed to deploy them safely and at scale.

Information Systems students learn to design human-centered systems that use AI to solve societal challenges, with a deep understanding of governance and ethics.

Across the university, the message is consistent: AI is a powerful tool, and students must learn to wield it with expertise and integrity. Coursework in all disciplines challenges students to apply AI models, question their outputs, and debate the ethical frameworks necessary for their responsible use.

From minors like Tech Entrepreneurship that encourage AI-based ventures to a curriculum that demands computational thinking, CMU-Q prepares graduates to apply AI in addressing significant global challenges.
