Iran to continue using Uranium enrichment despite of pressure

(MENAFN) Iran has reaffirmed that it will continue uranium enrichment despite mounting pressure from the US and its allies, according to reports.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Al Jazeera that recent US and Israeli airstrikes in June failed to halt the country’s enrichment activities, which Tehran maintains are strictly civilian. While some “nuclear materials remain buried under the rubble,” he said, the technology “remains intact.”

“We cannot stop uranium enrichment, and what is not achieved by war cannot be achieved through political means,” Araghchi emphasized.

He also indicated that Iran remains open to negotiating a deal with the US through indirect talks, but only if Washington abandons what he described as “impossible and unacceptable preconditions.”

Araghchi further stated that Iran’s missile program is non-negotiable. “It would be foolish if one hands over their weapons,” he remarked.

Omani-mediated US-Iran negotiations were suspended earlier this year following a 12-day Israeli bombing campaign. Last month, the EU and UK reinstated sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, which the US withdrew from during President Donald Trump’s first term. Tehran has since stated that it no longer considers itself bound by the 2015 agreement, which officially expired in October.
