(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – The first edition of Mauritania's Nouakchott International Book Fair is running until next Sunday (26). The event, organized by the country's Ministry of Culture, opened on Monday (20) with a visit from local authorities. According to Mauritania's news agency AMI, one of the event's goals is to“revive” the place of books and reading in society.

Another goal of the event, according to AMI, is to encourage cultural communication between Mauritania's Arab and African communities. Located in North Africa, the country primarily uses Arabic and French and has a Muslim majority. The Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, and government spokesperson, El Houssein Ould Meddou, also said this is the country's main cultural event of the year and aims to serve as a space for knowledge exchange among writers, researchers, and publishers.

More than 80 publishers from various countries, including Qatar and Jordan, are participating in the fair. The program includes book signings, launches, and roundtable discussions with authors.
