Srinagar- A court here has convicted two persons in a case involving the illegal trafficking of psychotropic substances, including 7,500 bottles of“ZRex” syrup and 9,600“Zen-Cavit” capsules, seized in April 2021 from a transport facility in Chanapora on the city's outskirts.

Special Judge NDPS Cases Srinagar, Vinod Kumar, found Mudasir Sultan Bhat alias Majid and Feroz Ahmad Khan alias Jaja, both residents of Bemina, guilty under Sections 8/22 read with Section 29 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.

Mudasir Bhat was also convicted under Sections 468, 471 (forgery), and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code for facilitating the transportation of psychotropic substances under the guise of a legitimate pharmaceutical business.

According to the prosecution, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir received credible intelligence on April 20, 2021, regarding a truck (JK08A-7628) suspected of transporting a large consignment of illegal drugs.

The vehicle, as per information received by the ANTF, was allegedly operating on the instructions of the drug dealer named Mudasir alias Majid.

The information, the prosecution revealed, also suggested that the consignment will be unloaded at the Transport Company near Chanapora bypass bridge Srinagar etc.

Subsequently a case (FIR no 19/2021) under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act was registered in the police station Crime Branch Kashmir and investigation was set into motion. During the course of investigation, the prosecution said, a wireless message was flashed to DC Srinagar requesting him to depute an executive magistrate near chanapora bridge in connection with the investigation of the case.

“The employees of the transport company were found unloading the consignment from the truck, and were asked to produce the necessary documents with regard to the same,” the prosecution said.
