Jordan, US Discuss Boosting Agricultural Trade Exchange
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Sept. 30 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat met on Tuesday with US Chargé d'Affaires Peter Shea to discuss ways to enhance bilateral agricultural trade exchange.
Khreisat highlighted the "strong" Jordan-U.S. relations and cooperation, mainly in agriculture, outlining key challenges, including Jordan's water scarcity and climate change.
The minister also called for strengthening joint partnerships to mitigate these challenges, highlighting efforts to develop modern irrigation systems, promote smart agriculture, and support small and medium enterprises.
Shea, in turn, praised Jordan's efforts to serve the agricultural sector despite limited resources, reaffirming US "commitment" to continued cooperation and knowledge exchange.
According to a ministry statement, talks also explored opportunities to increase Jordanian exports of dates and olive oil to the US market and benefit from American expertise and technologies to improve production quality and export efficiency.
Both sides noted developing agricultural trade is an "important" economic lever that opens new markets for Jordanian farmers.
