Kuwait Olympic Chief Pledges Support For Sports, Athletes' Growth

KUWAIT, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Olympic Committee President Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah reaffirmed the committee's firm commitment to advancing the Olympic and sports movement and supporting Kuwaiti athletes to ensure a bright sporting future for coming generations, emphasizing that the athlete is the core and beating heart of the sporting process.
This came in his opening speech at the Kuwaiti Athletes Forum (2025), held by the committee Monday, at the Kuwait University Conference Center, in cooperation with the Olympic Solidarity Program and the Olympic Council of Asia.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah stated that the committee is keen on establishing partnerships with international and continental sports entities, especially Olympic ones, to enhance the role of young athletes and provide them with opportunities to excel. He considered the forum an important platform for constructive dialogue to develop sports in a way that serves the interests of all athletes.
He expressed hope that the forum would achieve its intended goals in advancing the path of sports in Kuwait, appreciating the cooperation of both the Olympic Council of Asia and Kuwait University in helping the Athletes Committee make the forum a success.
For his part, Abdullah Shaaban, head of the Athletes Committee, said in a similar speech that this forum, being held for the first time, aims to support athletes and guide them on the best ways to prepare physically, mentally, and health-wise for upcoming sporting events. He thanked the Kuwait Olympic Committee, the Public Authority for Sports, and Kuwait University for their support in organizing this sporting event.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Rifai, Acting Assistant Director of Kuwait University for Academic Affairs, said in his speech that the university, in addition to being an academic and scientific institution, is keen on supporting such youth and sports gatherings. He praised the efforts of all sports institutions in organizing this distinguished forum.
The forum sessions featured a select group of sports leaders and experts from Kuwait and the Arab world, who shared their experiences and visions for the development of the future of sports across various topics of the forum.
Bashar Abdullah, Director General of the Public Authority for Sports, focused on the substantial technical and administrative support Kuwait provides to athletes, coaches, and referees across various sports.
Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Masatfa, former member of the Jordan national karate team and bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, spoke about mental preparation for major competitions and its role in achieving significant accomplishments.
Nadia Al-Shammali, Head of the Anti-Doping Department at the Olympic Council of Asia, stressed the importance of awareness regarding the dangers of doping. Enas Hussein, an international lecturer, addressed the issue of preventing manipulation in sports competitions, while Modhi Al-Sudairi, Assistant Director of International Relations at the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, spoke on the topic of athlete protection.
