Türkiye Posts Sharp Decline in Trade Deficit
(MENAFN) Türkiye's foreign trade gap expanded sharply in the first half of 2025, reaching 49.4 billion U.S. dollars, according to data published Thursday by the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Trade Ministry.
From January through June, the country's exports rose 4.1 percent year-over-year to 131.4 billion dollars. However, imports outpaced that growth, jumping 7.2 percent to 180.8 billion dollars.
The export-to-import coverage ratio slipped to 72.7 percent in the first half of 2025, down from 74.8 percent in the same period last year, pointing to a widening gap between outbound and inbound trade.
In June alone, export figures climbed 7.9 percent compared to June 2024, totaling 20.5 billion dollars. Imports, meanwhile, surged 15.2 percent to 28.7 billion dollars, pushing the monthly trade deficit to 8.2 billion dollars.
Germany remained Türkiye’s top export market during the six-month period, with exports totaling 10.9 billion dollars. On the import front, China continued to dominate as the primary source, delivering goods worth 23.9 billion dollars.
