Denmark Issues Red Alert as Rains Threaten Widespread Flooding

(MENAFN) Denmark has been placed on red alert across large regions until Tuesday evening as severe rainfall sweeps through the country.

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has activated red and orange warnings starting Monday afternoon and extending through Tuesday evening, forecasting prolonged heavy rain.

Certain areas could receive in excess of 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain, raising serious concerns about flooding.

The DMI has also flagged potential flood risks linked to the downpours.

"Take care of yourselves and each other! This is the first time DMI has warned about 'very dangerous weather' in relation to rain," stated Torsten Schack, Denmark’s Minister for Emergency Preparedness, on X.

The storm system is expected to advance into Sweden, where southern highlands will likely experience the heaviest rainfall, possibly combined with thunderstorms, according to a Swedish public broadcaster.

Unlike Denmark, Sweden currently faces no severe impact warnings.
