EU's December Tranche To Cover Funding Gap For Ukraine In Early 2026 Dombrovskis
“We are scheduling a EUR 6 billion payment for December of this year in a sense to allow for covering [...] financing needs of early next year, because that's when Ukraine typically is experiencing a certain funding gap,” Dombrovskis said.
In his words, the EU provides financial support for Ukraine in cooperation with international donors, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As noted by Dombrovskis, the IMF decided to merge the next two programme reviews into one by the end of the year.
Additionally, the European Commission considers the funding options that are available through the EU budget and through using the proceeds from Russian immobilized sovereign assets, following the example of the G7 ERA Loans initiative.
A reminder that, according to Danish Economic Affairs Minister Stephanie Lose, the European Union began discussions on continuing financial support for Ukraine after 2026 , recognizing the need for ongoing assistance amid Russian aggression.
