Germany Considers Purchasing American Air Defense Systems For Ukraine
Berlin: The German government announced today that it is considering purchasing Patriot air defense systems from the United States for Kyiv, as Russia intensifies its airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.
In response to a question about this possibility, German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said, "There are several ways to fill this shortage of Patriot systems," adding, "I can assure you that intensive discussions are taking place on this topic."
He did, however, mention that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had a phone call yesterday with the US President regarding strengthening Ukraine's air defenses.
The United States, the largest military supporter of Ukraine since the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022, revealed last Tuesday that it had suspended arms shipments to Kyiv, while Moscow has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks.
