Russia Recognizes Afghanistan's Taliban Gov't


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, July 3 (KUNA) -- Russian presidential envoy to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said his country recognized Taliban as legitimate government of Afghanistan.
He confirmed in press remarks on Thursday earlier announcements by the Afghan and Russian foreign ministries in this regard.
The Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi received Kabulov in April in Kabul where he was informed of Russia's official recognition and the decision to upgrade the diplomatic representation to the ambassadorial level.
In early June Muttaqi received Russia Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov who handed the Afghan minister a note on accepting the credentials of Afghanistan Ambassador to Russia Gul Hassan Hassan.
In 2021, Taliban movement regained power in Afghanistan after toppling the US-backed government, and have since enforced Sharia (Islamic law). (end)
